Mobile Solution Improves Inventory Accuracy
Challenge
This customer is a world leader in hard disk drives and storage
solutions sold at retail stores and to original equipment
manufacturers. Coridian worked with this customer to automate
their inventory tracking system. They were having trouble accurately
tracking their inventory because they processed everything manually.
Warehouse employees would shelf items and then go back to their
computer and manually enter information regarding the location of
the product. This process wasted a great deal of time and resulted in
inaccurate inventory counts.
Solution
Coridian developed a custom application that was loaded into
Motorola’s MC9090 handheld terminals. The application allows
employees to have mobility in the warehouse and not constantly go
back to the computer to conduct a transaction. Coridian’s software
allows for employees to add, move and adjust inventory transactions
that are then uploaded into the company’s host program. For
security and compliance, the application also requires warehouse
employees to log on to the terminal with a username and password
providing confirmation of who completes each transaction.
Results
With the new terminals and custom application, this
customer can now deliver and move more product faster,
and warehouse employees are more efficient. There is also
more visibility of product flow and the company’s inventory
accuracy is now 99.9%. This company looked to Coridian
for a solution that was customizable for their needs, but also
cost effective. They will continue to look to Coridian in
future projects to help them improve their processes.
